Registro degli Osteopati d’Italia

The Italian Register of Osteopaths (ROI) is the largest and most representative association of osteopaths in the country and was founded in 1989.
It has over 3,000 members and aims to regulate and recognize the osteopathic profession in Italy.
Recently with the national law 3/2018 osteopathy has been individuated among the health professions, but the implementing decrees that identify training, competencies and qualifications to practice have not yet been defined.
To date, osteopathy in Italy is practiced by osteopaths with part time and full time training provided by private institutes, which award the “diploma in osteopathy”, a title that can not be considered “protected” or “a recognized authorization”.
Some schools of osteopathy confer a foreign university degree in osteopathy at the end of the training course.
However, the law 3/2018 contemplates that training must be provided by the national universities.
The ROI estimates that there are about 10,000 osteopaths in the Country.
Osteopathy has been widespread in Italy for over 30 years, and many Italians use osteopathic care for various problems, both on medical delivery and independently.
