Registro degli Osteopati d’Italia

The Registro degli Osteopati d’Italia (ROI) is the largest and most representative association of osteopaths in Italy. It was founded in 1989 and currently represents over 5,300 members.

ROI has played a key role in supporting the recognition and regulation of the osteopathic profession at national level. Osteopathy was formally identified as a healthcare profession with Law 3/2018. This process has been progressively implemented through subsequent regulatory steps, including the definition of the professional profile (DPR 131/2021), the establishment of university-level education (2023), and the State-Regions Agreement of December 18, 2025, which defines the transitional pathway for practitioners trained outside the university system.

The final implementing decree is currently in its final formal stages, pending publication in the Official Gazette, which will complete the regulatory framework.

Since 2024, osteopathic education in Italy has been structurally integrated within the university system. Private institutes are currently completing existing training programmes, with new enrolments in non-university programmes no longer permitted from September 2026.

Osteopathy has been widely practiced in Italy for over 30 years and is well established within the healthcare landscape, with patients accessing osteopathic care both through referral pathways and independently.
