The Israeli Osteopathic Association (IOA)
The Israeli Osteopathic Association (IOA) is the sole registered non-profit professional body representing osteopaths in Israel.
The IOA is committed to promoting and maintaining the highest standards of osteopathic education, professional practice, and patient care. Its primary role is to safeguard the public by distinguishing fully qualified osteopaths who have completed recognised osteopathic training programmes from practitioners who have undertaken only limited training in osteopathic techniques or who have not completed an accredited course of study.
In addition, the IOA supports continuing professional development, advances professional knowledge, and provides a platform for collaboration, professional dialogue, and the exchange of ideas among osteopaths practicing throughout Israel.
Today, the IOA currently represents approximately 240 members and continues to grow steadily.
Whilst osteopathy is not yet regulated by law in Israel, the IOA is actively working towards the formal recognition and regulation of the profession. This includes promoting academic recognition, establishing recognised degree pathways, and advancing statutory regulation comparable to that found in many European and international jurisdictions.
The IOA currently recognises two institutions that provide dedicated osteopathic education through comprehensive programmes of 4.5 to 5 years in duration:
- The Israeli Institute for Osteopathic Studies at the Levinsky-Wingate Academic Center
- Galil – The Center for Osteopathic Studies at the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Academic College
Osteopaths in Israel practice primarily in private clinics, while many are also integrated within complementary and integrative medicine services offered by Israel’s health maintenance organisations (HMOs) and hospitals.
As a member of the European osteopathic community, the IOA maintains close relationships with international professional organisations and works to ensure that osteopathic education and practice in Israel remain aligned with recognised European standards.
