The Norwegian Association of Osteopaths – NAO (Norsk Osteopatforbund – NOF) was founded in 1993 and organizes most Osteopaths working in Norway. Members consist of approximately 400 osteopaths, plus student members. Since 2008 there is a well-functioning full-time 4-year programme in Oslo, at Kristiania University College.

The Norwegian parliament has decided to regulate osteopathy as a primary healthcare profession, from 1st of May 2022. Individuals need to apply for authorization and a license before being able to practice as an osteopath in Norway. Applications must be presented to the Health directorate.

Osteopaths in Norway have a good level of public recognition and are well-established as providers of primary health care. NOF continues our efforts to build good relations with important stakeholders and believe the future is promising regarding the osteopathic profession’s position within healthcare.
