I have a non-European diploma. Which countries recognize it?

Mutual recognition of non-European diplomas, such as those from Canada, is a complex issue governed by national laws in each EU country. This is not only the case for osteopaths, but for all other state-regulated healthcare professionals, e.g., GPs, chiropractors, and physiotherapists. Unfortunately, these laws and regulations are beyond the influence of Osteopathy Europe.

To explore further options, we recommend contacting the national osteopathic association to get precise information and advice for your specific case.

Studying osteopathy

Do you have a list of recommended schools in Europe?

Unfortunately, we do not provide a list of recommended schools.

When it comes to looking into a suitable programme leading to becoming a qualified osteopath, please be advised that all Osteopathy Europe members are regulating the profession in accordance with the CEN standard for Osteopathic Healthcare Provision. This again states that to qualify as an osteopath and a receive a license to practice in regulated countries, you would normally need to fulfill a 4-year fulltime education similar to 240 ECTS. This should include a large amount of face-to-face teaching and supervised clinical hours.

In our perspective an osteopathic qualification is not within reach by doing various online based programmes. You can find more information about regulation and qualifications on our website, please see link: https://osteopathyeurope.org/regulation/ Here you can also download a regulation report, for your information.
