EFFO Research Committee
The EFFO Research committee is a collaboration which aims to promote the value and impact of evidence-informed clinical practice and its influence on patient health and wellbeing and to ensure patient needs are met with evidence informed individualised care.
It works to disseminate research relevant to osteopathic practice and to facilitate collaboration across the osteopathic research communities in Europe.
Objectives:
- Profile research relevant to osteopathy, to the EFFO community
- Raise awareness of research opportunities in EFFO member countries through the EFFO and promote collaboration
- Advocate and encourage osteopaths, through the EFFO stakeholders, to embrace good standards of clinical practice in research and research education
- Represent the EFFO on matters of research and support the other EFFO working group, s
Meet the Committee Members

Dawn Carnes PhD is a health services researcher specialising in musculoskeletal health. She has a background in occupational psychologist and osteopathy. She chairs the EFFO Research Standing Committee.

Sander Kales is an osteopath, a teacher, a researcher and director for the SWOO. He has an M.Sc. in pediatric osteopathy and has had training in epidemiology.

Jerry Draper-Rodi is an academic clinician with a Professional Doctorate in osteopathy: he is the Director of the National Council for Osteopathic Research (NCOR) and a Senior Research Fellow at the University College of Osteopathy (UK).

Patrick van Dun MSc, DO has a private practice as an osteopath in Mechelen (Belgium) and Habichtswald (Germany). He is a Board of Trustees member of the Centre for Osteopathic MEdicine Collaboration (COME), Pescara (Italy), a non-profit research institute.

Lluís Horta has his private practice in Mallorca (Spain) and has a background in physiotherapy and osteopathy. He’s Board member of the EFFO and CEO of the Spanish Register of Osteopaths (ROE) and is currently finishing his Master in Health Care.

Richard Weynen DO served as board member of the EFO. He was vice-chair at the start from FORE and has represented the VOD (German Association for Osteopaths) in several international organisations, holding the function Vice President.

Andreas Sønderriis is an Osteopathic clinician that also works with scientific communication and dissemination for the Danish Osteopathic Association. He has a background in sports physiotherapy and Osteopathy and is currently finishing his Master of Science in Public Health.

David Braha, BSc (Neuro), BScPT, DOMP is an Osteopath and Clinic Owner in Bedford, Nova Scotia, Canada with a special interest in clinical research. He was Vice President of the Canadian Federation of Osteopaths (CFO) and is the current Co-Chair of the CFO Research Committee. David is a member of the Mount Saint Vincent University Research Ethics Board in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Dr Oliver Thomson PhD practices as an osteopath in London, where he works in a multidisciplinary clinic.
In addition to his clinical role, he also works as an Associate Professor at the University College of Osteopathy (London, UK).
Oliver is an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine (IJOM) and host of The Words Matter Podcast where he has critical discussions with leading academic-clinicians across the MSK spectrum on topics related to person-centred care, clinical communication, evidence-based practice and the biopsychosocial model.
Current Projects
The EFFO has funded a pilot study to support the collection of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), to measure the effect of osteopathic care for patients as part of daily practice. This information is collected directly from patients by an independent research organisation, as evidence for osteopaths in the United Kingdom (UK) and mainland Europe.
